Superior Noise Blocking for Extreme Environments

For maximum protection, SureFire EP7 (NRR 28dB) and EP10 (NRR 30dB) use foam-tipped designs to seal out continuous loud noise, ideal for shooting, industrial work, and high-noise areas.

Durable, Comfortable & Reusable

Made from soft hypoallergenic polymer or memory foam, Sonic Defenders fit securely, provide all-day comfort, and last up to 6+ months for long-term hearing protection.

Description

EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra protect your hearing without interfering with your ability to hear routine sounds or conversations. Their foam-tipped stem design, featuring soft memory-foam Comply™ Canal Tips, fits most people and provides a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 28dB. Sounds, at safe levels, are allowed to pass through into the ear canal, while potentially harmful noises (above 85dB) are reduced via a proprietary design that incorporates a special noise-reducing filter. EP7s include attached filter caps, which can be inserted for additional protection and blocking out lower-level noise, like that heard on a plane, in situations where hearing ambient sounds or conversations isn't critical. Right/left color-coded Sonic Defenders Ultra are made from a soft but durable, hypoallergenic polymer that provides all-day comfort and an extended product life (up to 6+ months, depending on usage and care). Their patented EarLock® retention rings lock the earplugs in place, while soft foam-tipped stems provide secure seals in the ear canals. And their low-profile design means they can be worn while wearing a helmet or mask, or while using a phone or headset. Available in clear, black, or orange.

Comfortable EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra also serve as earpieces for compatible radio communication systems* simply by removing the noise-reducing filter and attaching the earpiece to the system.

RADIO COMM SYSTEM COMPATIBILITY: Thales: Covert Security Harness; Harris: Security Force Communication Set; Motorola: Surveillance Kits; Tactical Command Industries: Tactical Earpiece Products; Peltor: Lightweight Systems-Hearplug; Silynx: C4Ops Headset

Key certifications:

NRR 28

An NRR of 28 means that the hearing protection is estimated to reduce noise levels by an average of 28 decibels across various frequencies.

'NRR' in hearing protection stands for 'Noise Reduction Rating,' which is a single value used to indicate the average level of noise reduction a hearing protection device provides across different frequencies, essentially telling you how much sound attenuation the earplugs or earmuffs will offer when worn correctly; the higher the NRR value, the greater the noise reduction level is considered to be.

NRR is primarily used as a rating system in North America, while Europe often uses 'SNR' (Single Number Rating) and Australia/New Zealand use 'SLC80'; which both differ slightly in calculation.

Instructions

Fitting and Testing
1. Roll the Comply Canal Tip of the color-coded EP7 (red filter for the right ear) into a thin, round cylinder, ensuring the tip does not unscrew from the stem.
2. Position the EarLock retention ring of the right earplug slightly backward, then rotate the earplug forward while inserting the foam tip deep into the right ear canal. Fit the retention ring to the natural contour of the concha bowl to lock the earplug in place. Hold for 15 - 30 seconds while the foam tip fully expands.
3. Check the earplug’s seal by placing a fingertip over the outer hole of the filter and then removing it. A slight suction indicates a proper seal.
4. Repeat the process with the white-filtered earpiece for the left ear.
5. Test the fit by clapping while the filter caps are out. If there is no noticeable decrease in volume, remove and reinsert the earplugs, then retest.
6. To block lower-level noise in quiet environments, insert the attached filter caps into the filter holes and push them in until snug.

  • Note: Inserting filter caps negates the noise-reducing filters' ability to allow ambient sounds and conversations to pass through safely.
  • Warning: Failure to follow these instructions will severely impair the protection provided by the EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra.

Replacing Comply Canal Tips
For optimal performance, the Comply™ Canal Tips used on EP7s should be replaced every 2 - 4 weeks or when soiled. Additional tips can be purchased directly from SureFire.
To replace Comply ™ Canal Tips:
1. Unscrew old tips and discard.
2. Wipe earplug stems clean with a clean, dry rag.
3. Screw on new tips until fully seated and hand tight. DO NOT overtighten, as this may damage the stems. ALWAYS replace both tips at the same time.

Connecting/Disconnecting Lanyard
Remove twist tie and uncoil lanyard. Insert lanyard ends into small holes on the outside of EP7s, located beneath the noise-reducing filters, and push in until lanyard ends snap in place. To remove, pull gently on lanyard ends until they disconnect from earplugs.

Radio Communication System Use
An EP7 earplug can also serve as an earpiece for compatible radio communication systems by simply removing its noise-reducing filter (store in a safe place for future use) and inserting the system’s elbow connector into the hole previously occupied by the filter until snug.
